Kyran Double Page Spread Analysis
Content analysis of a double page spread
- The largest image is of the band the article is about this is so it draws your attention to the image straight away
- The bold font at the beginning of the main story links to the largest image on the DPS as it mentions ‘Weird’ which links to the strange shades the people artist has got on
- The bold font also draws your attention to the beginning of the story
- The pull quote at the beginning has a bolder, larger font for each band, so it draws you attention to it, as it shows the weirdness of the band in the case of ‘Baddies’, it could also be a house style so it shows consistency as people may not like it to change
- The fact box at the bottom of each profile for the band is most likely a house style part to the magazine, so some people will buy it for these facts
- Also the fact they in the dark in the image could link to there name as ‘Baddies’ you would relate to the dark
- Also the image for ‘The Soft Pack’ is also linked to the band name as the image by removing the colour a little makes it seem softer, also they are all smiling so it makes them seem happier
- The image for ‘Chairlift’ is a close-up as it shows that this band is mainly focused on him
- The way the text is set up is to make it easy to read and also makes it seem more spread out, also it allows you to focus on the pull quote on the centre
kyran double page spread analysis
Double Page Spread
The double page spread by Metal Hammer in December 2010 about the architects, used lots of informal language as this suits the target audience as it is not difficult to read and easy to understand, this is what I would use for my magazine as my target audience is 17-19 year olds and when they purchase the music magazines they expect an easy read.
Also there is a range of different sentence styles used in this article, this makes the article flow more and simple to read. Further more it makes it more understandable so in my magazine I am going to use a range of sentence styles to create this effect in my magazine.
The use of superlatives and imperatives helps top advertise the band as the superlatives make the band sound very good and the imperatives make you want to buy there new album or single. I would therefore use this to advertise the band I am using for my double page spread.
Colloquialism are used through out the article especially in the quotes therefore this makes the quotes sound more real as the use of language is what is expected of young people. This then made me realise for quotes I will have to use language that would be expected of the type of band they are e.g. young, would use a lot more colloquialisms.
There is a use of rhetorical questions throughout the magazine this therefore makes the audience question themselves and gets them thinking. I may use them in my article as I would hopefully get the same effect from that on my magazine.
There is a lot of use of active language throughout the magazine, I may use this in my magazine as it creates the feeling of looking forward to the future for this band and the audience will therefore want to be a part of it.

contents page analysis 2- kyran
- The masthead for the magazine is also on the contents page, this shows continuation and the mast head is iconic and recognisable
- Has the features down the left hand side to show you what the magazine contains and what you should expect, furthermore they use common headings for the features so you know what to expect even if the artists are different.
- below the features column they have a 'Oasis Special' this is shown as they are the biggest artist involved in the issue. also they have more than one article about them.
- The main image is central and it also is the biggest in the contents so you know that is the main article and one of the bigger bands in the article. the dennotates of this image is a mountain, but it connotates that they are high up in the world
- there is also a smaller image of a guy in the bottom in the middle who looks relax and this could connotate he is happy with life
- the font remains the same, and for the main headings they used block capitals, to show they are the main features, used black, red and white font colour throughout the article as this is the house style. the font type is also a house style as it remains constant through each issue
- There is also in the bottom left corner a section where they have articles they do every month, this again is more of a house style, and it shows continuation so if you like these articles you keep going back to it
- the font colour for the 'Oasis Special' is gold as it connotates that it is important and the main article, and its like gold its precious and something to be appreciated
Contents page analysis 1- kyran
- Kasabian is the main article as shown by the main image, you know it is the main image as it relates to the main story. Further more it is the largest image on the magazine and it is central in the contents so you are drawn to it
- Contains what edition it is so it shows that it is weekly edition for new buyers, so if they really like they can buy it each week
- the contents shows a side bar, that contains headings to lead you to the articles you will most likely want to read about, for example if you only purchased the magazine for the main article
- down the left hand side there is a band list of previous artists that have been on the magazine, and if they have a number next to them they are in the magazine and the number is what page they mentioned on. this helpful for people wanting to keep up to date on there favourite artists
- there is mini story in the contents page to show what the main story is going to be about, and it gives an overview of the type of stories that are going to be mentioned and why they been included in the edition, in this case because of there new album.
- Font size and style are the same throughout, it is constant so it keeps the same style, further more the sub heading and the heading 'THIS WEEK' are the same font as the mast head but different colour, the colour for the sub headings and heading would be black as it more formal.
- the font for the the details on the articles and the band list and the main story are the same, they remain constant as the font is the house style for magazine
